UNEX 2024 will provide training in planning and management of crime and security operations and strengthen regional and national response plans to transnational organised crime. (FP)
St. Lucia will be the next host of the Regional Security System’s Unity Exercise (UNEX), from April 3 to 14, 2024.
The exercise, which is being implemented under the RSS 11th European Development Fund project in collaboration with the European Union and the Government of St. Lucia, will be launched next Monday, June 19, with a ceremony at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development and Urban Renewal, Union Complex, Union, Castries.
UNEX’24 will see participation from security organisations from the eight RSS Member States, in addition to representation from regional and international partners. The sub-regionally owned UNEX is designed to improve mechanisms for regional cooperation within the RSS, in response to security threats such as drug trafficking incidences, terrorism and other threats to border security. It is the main tool for testing the efficiency of coordinating resource deployments in support of RSS Member States, under the RSS response mechanism. The UNEX will provide an excellent opportunity to improve the planning and management of crime and security operations and strengthen regional and national response plans to transnational organised crime.
